Members of Collinsville High School’s clay target shooting club – Trap Club – have qualified to go to the National Clay Target Shooting Competition in Mason, Michigan July 12 – 15, 2018.
Students competing in the team competition at Nationals are: Hunter Geisert (senior), Nate Lee (sophomore), PJ Tottleben (junior), Brendan Sommer (junior) and Nate Drobisch (sophomore). CHS students competing at Nationals as individuals are: Dylan Phegley (freshman), Hunter Bossetto (junior), Dominic Darrin (junior) and Logan Fairfield (freshman). All of the student-athletes qualified based on their averages.
The Trap Club – known as the Klay-hoks – shoot in both fall and spring leagues at the Edwardsville Gun Club. This spring, the Klay-hoks won the league championship against Edwardsville High School. The CHS Trap Club is sponsored by Lisa Bossetto and Diana Gruber-Huster. They are coached by Chris Bossetto and Jared Thomas.
“We couldn’t do any of this without our great parents and coaches,” says Lisa Bossetto, “The students are diverse and get along so well. We have everyone from cheerleaders, to hockey players, to students who wanted nothing to do with CHS activities until they found this club. We are extremely excited that we got first place in our spring league and beat Edwardsville.”
“As a club and sport, our first priority has always been safety. All students must have passed a hunter safety course. After safety comes fun. We have had a great time the last two years and going to Nationals is the cherry on top. I can’t wait to see where this club goes from here!” added Bossetto.
As a high school club, all of the Klay-hoks funding is provided solely by their parent booster club. They have a GoFundMe effort to help cover the cost of this summer’s trip to Nationals.
