Runners enjoyed rolling hills and a picturesque setting with ponds, forests and farmland as they competed in the first annual Chase the Rainbow 5K hosted by the Collinsville High School Gay/Straight Alliance and sponsored by JLP Homes.
The winner was Kyle Kellison of Collinsville who finished with a time of 23:38.9 — a great showing for his first ever 5K. He was closely followed by Eve Hiller of Collinsville who came in at an impressive 24:07.5.
The race took place in the new Tanglewood subdivision off Highway 159 between Collinsville and Fairview Heights. The development’s new homes reside in the Collinsville school district. Runners used the wide, paved streets that wind through the property. JLP Homes provided the location and food. Other sponsors included Scott Credit Union in Caseyville and the Collinsville Schnucks store.
The CHS GSA is part of a national anti-bullying coalition of students and teachers whose mission is to promote acceptance, discourage discrimination, and establish positive connections at the high school and in the community. The funds raised at the Chase the Rainbow 5K will be used to further this mission with community events, scholarships, and outreach materials.
