Top Latin, French and Spanish students from Collinsville High School had an excellent outing at the 44th Annual Southern Illinois University Carbondale Foreign Language Scholar Bowl.
The CHS Latin group was pitted against the SIUC scrimmage team and WON FIRST PLACE against the college students. Both the CHS A Team and B Team brought home trophies. James Stark is the CHS Latin teacher/coach.
Both Spanish teams advanced to the semi-finals before being eliminated by tough teams. CHS Spanish teacher Cara Kettler reported the CHS Spanish A Team missed the final round by only one question.
The French teams competed for the first time in years, and went out in an early round losing to Effingham by one question. However, the Effingham teacher was so impressed she congratulated CHS French teacher Dana Schulte on having a tough team.
