August 26, 2022 – The Collinsville High School Black Student Union was among local groups who were presented monetary grants during a Grand Re-Opening Celebration at Walmart Neighborhood Market in Collinsville.
Metro East Diaper Bank, Collinsville Food Pantry and Collinsville High School Black Student Union (BSU) each received checks during a ceremonial re-opening of the recently remodeled store. Walmart management and employees attended the event.
The CHS BSU will use the $750 they received to further their work in the community. The group was “created to represent the interest and concerns of African American students at Collinsville High, while promoting unity, mutual respect, and a sense of community.” The BSU sponsors Black History Month activities each year; a Christmas Craft Fair; and volunteer activities, such as collecting and donating televisions to nursing home residents and re-stocking local Blessing Boxes with food and personal items.
The CHS Black Student Union sponsors are Joanna Kelly and James Alexander.
