The Collinsville High School Band received a generous donation toward their 2018 trip to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Beth Bancroft, representing DieCon, presented a check for $1,000 to Collinsville Band Director Robert Wright. The money was raised by her group to support the CHS Band’s fundraising effort for the New York trip.
The Collinsville High School Band has been selected to perform at Carnegie Hall in March of 2018. The band will be the featured instrumental ensemble for the Choirs of America Choral Convergence Concert.
“This experience will put Collinsville students in contact with world renowned faculty and guest conductors. Along with this incredibly prestigious performance, the students will get the chance to experience the best that New York has to offer,” says Mr. Wright, “We will embark on some of the traditional New York tourist attractions such as the Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 memorial museum, Time Square, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Rockefeller Center and finally a dinner with the cast of one of New York’s Broadway shows.”
Bancroft, an educational assistant at CHS, became aware of the trip last year through a student whose dedication to the band and desire to go on the trip led to an interest in how to help make the trip possible for all students – regardless of ability to pay.
Bancroft is a founding member of DieCon, a group that gets together to play board, card and role playing games. Their annual event at the Gateway Center includes a charity fundraiser every year. This year, Bancroft suggested the money support the CHS Band trip.
“It is a way we support a worthy cause in the community every year. I’m happy to present this check to the CHS Band,” she says.
The band is holding numerous fundraisers to support the trip. For more information, contact: [email protected].
