Congratulations to Collinsville Area Vocational Center instructor Justin Cann who was chosen Kahok Educator of the Month for November 2019.
Mr. Cann was surprised during machining class on Friday, November 8, 2019 by Edward Jones Representative Jason Rehg and members of the CUSD 10 administrative team.
Cann teaches Introduction to Metals (grades 9-12), Exploring Metals (grades 9-12), Vocational Machining 1 and 2 (grades 11-12) and Building Trades 1 & 2 (grades 11-12) at CAVC.
CAVC Director Dr. Tricia Blackard chose Mr. Cann based on his dedication to CAVC and his students. She said:
“Mr. Cann has been a valuable member of the CAVC staff for many years. His dedication and commitment is evident in everything he does. He recently completed his 2nd residential home with his Building Trades class and is set to break ground on his 3rd home this fall. These projects take considerable organization and a large time commitment beyond the regular school day.
Additionally, Mr. Cann has been an incredible Machining instructor for both CAVC and SWIC. In that role he has continually integrated the newest technologies into his curriculum, so he can prepare his students to continue their education or even directly enter the job market.
Mr. Cann has sought numerous grants from organizations such as Haas, who makes quality machining equipment, and has used those funds to provide scholarships for students to attend CAVC, as well as support the needs of many students who might not be able to acquire the supplies they need to fully engage within the program. This year Mr. Cann has integrated OSHA 10 as a certification for all of his students and has assisted in the cost associated with that certification through his additional grants.
Mr. Cann is an amazing example of selfless dedication and his true commitment to his students and his areas of expertise are evident in everything he does. I am proud to have Mr. Cann as an instructor at CAVC as well as a teacher for Collinsville High School.”
