Collinsville Community Unit School District #10 Assistant Superintendent Bradley Hyre was named Assistant Superintendent of the Year by the Illinois Principals Association Southwestern Region. Hyre was honored during the IPA Fall Social and Awards Presentation on September 5, 2018, in Belleville.
Mr. Hyre was nominated by the CUSD 10 elementary school principals: Dr. Julie Haake, Chelsea Clark, Laura Bauer, Carmen Loemker, Dr. Todd Pettit, and Brad Snow.
In their nomination, the group wrote:
The elementary administrative team at CUSD #10 is honored to nominate Mr. Brad Hyre for IPA’s Administrative Partner of the Year Award for 2018. Mr. Hyre is the Assistant Superintendent in the district, and oversees student enrollment and services. At all times, Mr. Hyre makes decisions in the best interest of the students. He never hesitates to put in the extra time and effort to assist the administrators in our day-to-day decisions and he offers full support and guidance to us.
Upon entering his position, Mr. Hyre recognized the negative impact resulting from a large number of elementary students being transferred out of their home schools. In order to improve the education of these students, and address the safety issue of having young students transfer buses, he worked diligently with our team to exponentially reduce that number. In addition, he spent weeks with the bus company, rerouting specific buses in an extra effort to reduce bus transfers. We currently have a minimal number of students in this situation, with extra measures in place to insure all transfers are done so as safely as possible.
Mr. Hyre also assists in chairing a Track and Field Jamboree for all fourth grade students in our district. While partnering with the PE department, he oversees the logistics of bringing 500+ students together at our high school for a full day of friendly competition. Throughout the day, Mr. Hyre can be found at finish lines high-fiving students, sitting in the bleachers talking to students, and all smiles as he watches the awards being handed out in the winner’s circle.
Mr. Hyre always makes time to guide and support the administrators in our day-to-day duties. He takes the time to talk through situations with us, and offers us support each step of the way. He makes every decision based around what is best for students. In addition, every few weeks he sends us an email of appreciation, or a card recognizing an extra project that we facilitated, just to let us know he values us as members of the administrative team. Mr. Hyre has a calm demeanor and presence. He guides us in a manner that makes even crisis situations seem manageable. Mr. Hyre is the exact type of leader that we want to follow.
It is with full confidence that we would like to nominate Mr. Brad Hyre for IPA’s Administrative Partner of the Year Award for 2018.
The award category for “Superintendent” of the Year was modified the Southwestern Region IPA this year to honor Assistant Superintendent Hyre based on his impressive nomination.
Mr. Hyre has been in education for more than 30 years. He began his career as a science teacher in the Highland CUSD #5 school district, later serving as Athletic Director. He joined the Kahok family as an assistant principal at Collinsville High School before being named CUSD 10 Director of Student Services in 2016. He became assistant superintendent in 2017.
In accepting the award, Hyre said he believes he is “the luckiest person both personally and professionally.” He thanked his wife and his colleagues in Unit 10 for their support. He ended by saying, “Remember…EVERYONE matters every day. Whether you are a student, a staff member or a someone in the community – you matter.”
