The CUSD 10 Board of Education welcomed 2018-19 Student School Board Member Olivia Arnold during their August 20, 2018 meeting. Olivia is a senior at Collinsville High School.
Olivia Arnold was selected as the Student School Board Member based on the application she submitted last March. This is the fourth consecutive school year the board has had a student representative.
The Student School Board Member’s role is to be the voice of Unit 10 students. The position is not ceremonial. While the student member does not have a vote, his/her comments are encouraged and appreciated by Board of Education members.
Olivia says she will do a good job of representing students because she is not afraid to step of her comfort zone and has the interests of all students at heart.
In her application, she wrote:
My main goal as student board member is to listen to my peers and those who think their opinions don’t matter. I believe that everyone’s opinions matter and should be taken into consideration. I plan to be easily accessible on all social media sites to help those in need. I think that I would be the best candidate for student school board member because I will make sure that everyone’s thoughts are accounted for and will take a risk when necessary.
Olivia is the daughter of Frank and Cathy Arnold of Collinsville. She plans to attend SIUE next year and major in biochemistry, with a possible future in forensic medicine.
