April 23, 2021 letter to families from Collinsville CUSD 10 Superintendent Dr. Mark B. Skertich:
April 23, 2021
Kahok Families,
Midwest weather always provides uncertainty! This past week was no exception as snow accumulation was evident on trees, benches and chairs throughout our area. Snowfall in March is always expected, but right before the end of April is one to remember.
This week the Board of Education approved the expansion of health care services for students in high school and middle school by partnering with Hazel Health, a virtual care platform that provides a telehealth visit on demand during the school day regardless of a student’s insurance or financial resources. Our primary goals are to ensure students’ seasonal illnesses or infections do not go untreated. Students will be able to access the service from the nurse’s office or from home, receive a diagnosis and medications, or or have prescriptions sent to the family’s pharmacy of choice. The service will minimize lost academic time and minimize disruptions to our families’ already hectic schedules. Please watch for resource materials and consent forms or visit the district website for more information.
May is almost here. Please note a few upcoming important dates:
- Week of May 3rd – May 7th National Teacher Appreciation Week
- Friday, May 7th – Last Day for CHS Seniors
- Tuesday, May 18th – Last Day of Student Attendance
- Wednesday, May 19th – Teacher Institute
This summer, there will be numerous academic and co-curricular activities for our students. These include Summer School and Extended School Year in May/June, Jump Start in August and varied Kahok and community athletic and fine arts camps for students to attend. We are excited to be able to provide numerous opportunities for students throughout the summer!
Last, in addition to supervised school activities, and continuing with our district’s effort to celebrate diversity, I would like to encourage families to visit Cahokia Mounds and tour the Interpretive Center, hike the trails, explore the mounds and spend quality time as a family learning about the most sophisticated prehistoric native civilization north of Mexico. We are fortunate to have access to this wealth of history just minutes from our door steps and it offers a great way to keep our students active physically and academically.
End-of-year events and opportunities for student recognition will be plentiful in the days ahead. Whether you are able to watch in-person or stream online, don’t forget to wear your purple and show your Kahok Pride!
Sincerely,
Mark B. Skertich, Ed.D.
Superintendent
