Official Statement from the Office of the Superintendent
May 3, 2018
I have been asked by Collinsville Tepee to share the following information:
“Due to the threatening letter received, the Tepee adult board has canceled the May Dance for this year.”
The Collinsville Tepee organization holds the annual May Dance to raise money for their youth center which operates on Main Street in Collinsville. The community dance was scheduled for this Saturday, May 5, in the gym at Collinsville High School.
On April 23, 2018, an anonymous letter addressed to me was received at the CUSD 10 Administrative Building, 201 W. Clay Street. The letter conveyed a threat to the safety of persons attending the annual May Dance.
Upon receipt of the letter, the Collinsville Police Department was immediately contacted and an investigation is ongoing.
Collinsville Tepee and the May Dance are local traditions that go back more than 50 years. The participants in the event compete to raise money to support Collinsville Tepee. While the dance may not be held as planned, the community spirit of Tepee and its supporters will not be deterred. We appreciate what they do for Collinsville students and families.
Anyone with information that may help uncover the source of the anonymous letter should contact the Collinsville Police Department at 618-344-2131.
Dr. Robert Green, Superintendent
