Collinsville VFW Post 5691 presented 2019 Voice of Democracy Awards to Collinsville High School Students on Friday, December 6, 2019 following the school’s annual Veterans Lunch.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Voice of Democracy program awards students who voice their patriotism in an essay based on a theme chosen every year by the VFW. The 2019 theme was “What Makes America Great?”
VFW Post 5691 Commander Joe White, along with James and Kathy Cann, presented medals, certificates and checks to the three CHS students who earned first, second and third place in the local round of competition.
1st Place: Megan Houberg, $100
2nd Place: Jennifer Corrillo, $75
3rd Place: Claire Ross, $50
The Voice of Democracy contest at Collinsville High School is coordinated by Social Studies Department Chair Barbara Lindauer.
