Ms. Ashlyn Gibson
Hi friends, my name is Ashlyn Gibson and I am the K-2 Professional School Counselor here at Hudson Elementary.
Check out my Counselors' Corner Website here: Hudson Elementary Counselors' Corner
I grew up in Denver NC and I am the oldest of three. My undergraduate degree is in Theatre Arts which I received in the winter of 2013 from the University of North Carolina in Asheville and I received my masters in Education in School Counseling in the winter of 2018 from Western Carolina University. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor pursuing licensure as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counseling Associate. My goal is to incorporate some theatrics into my counseling style which will allow the students different ways of expressing themselves as they go through each developmental stage. So, if you hear music or see me dancing in the hallways, do not be alarmed. Anything artsy makes any day a little brighter in my book and I love to help kids turn their frowns upside down.
My high school best friend and I will be celebrating our 5th year of marriage this December and we have a beautiful toddler named Holland Monroe. She is so happy and smiles all the time and will be 3 in February. We are blessed to say that she brightens up our lives more and more every day. Sushi and coffee are my loves! You will never find me without my mug in hand and I will most always be humming a toon in the hallways.
Here at Hudson, I primarily work with K-2nd grade students in many aspects of their lives. I facilitate classroom counseling lessons for ALL students focusing around topics such as bullying, conflict resolution, tattling, making and keeping friends, career exploration, diversity & inclusion, self-regulation, personal space and much much more. I run small groups surrounding grief, divorce, anxiety, growth mindset, impulse control, self-esteem and more. As a Professional School Counselor, I also see kids short term individually to speak about academic, personal and social/emotional issues as needed.
As one of the counselors here, it is my job not only to be here for the students, but also for the adults around the school and the parents. I help teachers develop plans for students with behavior or social issues, brainstorm academic interventions to be used in the classroom, as well as provide them with strategies to use when interacting with students who have emotional issues. For parents, I am here to help explore ways to help each child succeed and feel successful and supply resource materials.
I am looking forward to an exciting year here at Hudson! One of my goals this year is to help strengthen communication and to provide as many resources as possible to families in need. Let's go hornets! This year is going to be great!
