Tom Link
Chief Link is a 32-year veteran of the fire service beginning as a volunteer firefighter with the Carrboro Fire Department and then becoming a member of the Charlotte Fire Department and rising to the rank of Battalion Fire Chief in 2001. He served at that rank until his retirement in 2015. Much of his service career was spent at Charlotte Fire Station #15 which housed "The Shamrock Express", one of the busiest fire engine companies in the southeast. He served the City of Charlotte in many different capacities, including coalition coordinator for the National Safe Kids Campaign and as a founding member of the Firefighters' Burned Children Fund.
He earned his Bachelor's Degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, focusing his studies in the Public Policy Analysis of State and Local Government. After his retirement, he was hired by the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System to start their high school public safety academy program. He joined the staff at Concord High School in February of 2019.
