  • Every year ELL students in North Carolina take the ACCESS test to measure their growth in academic English. The test assesses the four language domains: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The scores help ELL and classroom teachers provide the best support for ELL students at their level. They also let the ELL teacher know when a student is ready to exit ESL services. ACCESS scores are on a scale from 1-6.
