PLANTS
Seed Stage: Seeds can be planted in soil. The embryo will need water and sunlight.
Germination Stage: When the temperature is right and the seed gets just the right amount of water, a tiny sprout will appear.
Roots and Stems: The roots grow below ground and the stem pushes its way to the surface. Leaves begin to come out of the stem.
Seedling: The stem and its leaves grow up toward the sunlight, make food for the plant in a process called photosynthesis. The plant creates flowers.
Pollination: Flowers have pollen and syrup in them Bees are attracted to the sweet syrup. The fuzzy powder called pollen gets stuck to the bee's legs. The bees carry it to another flower and this creates seeds for a new plant.

PROJECTS FOR STUDENTS:
Choice Board: Solar System 3rd Grade
3.E.1.1 Recognize that the earth is part of a system called the solar system that includes the sun (a star), planets, and many moons and the earth is the third planet from the sun in our solar system
Select one of the assignments below.
CREATE CREATURES:
Create creatures who might live on each planet of the 7 other planets in our solar system.
- You’ll create a 7-page book using google slides.
- You’ll get your information fromhttps://space-facts.com/ andhttps://solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/overview/
- RULES:
- 1. You’ll list 3 facts about your planet on each page.
- 2. Then, you’ll create 3 attributes for each creature. The attributes will need to be connected to the conditions on the planet. For example, a creature living on Mars might be red to blend with the soil, might have a body that could adapt to extreme temperatures, and might fly to be able to get food.
- 3. You'll have to find an image to match each of the creatures. You'll use the attributes you listed about each one of the creatures to help you find an image.
EXAMPLE SLIDE:
OUTER SOLAR SYSTEM:
Use Brainpop to “make-a-movie”. You’re making a video about what is in our outer solar system (beyond Neptune).
Login through Clever. Search for the video "Outer Solar System" and watch this movie. Take notes on the terms:
- Planet X, trans-Neptunian objects, Kuiper Belt Objects, Scattered Disc, Eris, Pluto, Oort Cloud, sun’s gravity, solar wind, Voyager 1 and 2 and include these in your movie. Your movie must have a minimum of 10 scenes. You must have
- Submit the movie to: dale.sabaratnam@apps.cabarrus.k12.nc.us
MOONS:
Write a seven page book using google slides about seven of these nine moons: Phobos, Deimos,Io, Europa, Gannymede, Calisto, Triton, Titan, Charon.
There is information under the heading “Moons” on https://space-facts.com/.
Include two pictures on each slide and 3 facts about each of the moons.
EXAMPLE SLIDE:
ABC BOOK: This is good for people who work quickly! It's a long assignment but interesting! Make a 27-page ABC book.
1.You'll create this in google slides.
2. The first page will be a cover for the book: ABC SOLAR SYSTEM BOOK, by: ________________________
3. Each slide will have information about something beginning with each letter of the alphabet. Each page will begin with a letter of the alphabet, beginning with A.
4. Each page should have a picture.
4. Each page should have a short description the items--please use your own words--don't cut and paste text--this is illegal!
5. Find your information on any of the links above (NASA, Spacefacts, Enchanted Learning) OR use other kid-friendly resources (Brittanica, etc.)
