    Hello Indian Nation,

I wanted to reach out to you with another update before we begin our Spring Break.  I would like to begin by thanking the entire community for the efforts that you all have made during the Covid-19 pandemic.  We face circumstances that are new to all of us and together we are creating workable solutions. Staff, students, parents, and the community have come together to continue the instructional process and ensure that our students do not have achievement gaps when they return to school.  This is a learning process and we will all adjust as we gain more experience.

Currently, our physical school closures are scheduled through the conclusion of Spring Break (April 17).  We anticipate receiving additional guidance from state officials on Tuesday April 14 as to whether or not closures will be extended.  We will relay that information as soon as it is provided. We are currently planning as if physical school closures will continue beyond April 17.

A grading procedure for distance learning has been put in place for all grade levels.  Please ensure that your child is completing required assignments by working online via Google Classroom or by completing and returning paper packets.  Again, our goal is to continue with a high level of learning so that all students are prepared for their next phase of education.

I realize that we still have many activities that are clouded with uncertainty.  Most notably, our graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020. I wish that I had a firm answer at this time, but unfortunately it is difficult to predict what the status of health will be when those events occur.  We will develop a plan as more firm details unfold and those plans will be shared as early as possible.

Please enjoy Spring Break.  Take the opportunity to step away from school work, enjoy time with your family, and make the best of your situation.  This pandemic has definitely provided us with a different perspective on life. We will never again take for granted the small things in life such as the ability to go where we want, gather in groups, or enjoy the physical company of others.  We will emerge stronger, better prepared, and with a renewed confidence in our abilities to handle anything placed in front of us.

BILOXI STRONG & INDIAN NATION PROUD!

    Thank You,

Marcus Boudreaux, Superintendent, Biloxi Public School District
