New Haven School Nurse

  • Welcome to the New Haven School Nurses Office

There is a positive correlation between a child's health and their academic potential.  All children need to receive support at school for health conditions that may impact their safety, well-being, and capacity for learning. Students and parents are encouraged to discuss any health concerns with the school nurse.

    Physical Examinations
Students who are new to the Mexico School District and students entering Pre-K, K, 2nd, 4th, and 10th grades are required by New York State law to have a physical examination by a licensed health care provider.  This examination may be performed by the school health care provider at no charge, or you may take your child to your own health care provider.

    Screenings
Throughout the school year, mandatory screenings will be completed in the nurse's office. Vision and hearing screenings are performed throughout grades k-4,  if a screening is failed the parent/guardian will be notified.

    Medication Policy
If your child needs to take a medication during school hours, whether it be over-the-counter or prescription, the following must be provided to the school nurse:

    • A written Physician's order from the Health Care Provider which includes the medication and dosage.
    • A written request from the parent/guardian.
    • The medication must be brought in to the Nurse's office in it's original container by a parent/guardian.
    • Students are NOT allowed to self carry medications UNLESS authorized by a physician and parent/guardian in writing
