A Note Regarding Tax Rates
There are three factors that determine a taxpayer's school tax rate:
Tax levy - set by the district
Assessments - set by local assessors
Equalization rates - set by New York State
The Mexico Academy & Central School District Board of Education approved a 2.5% increase in the tax levy for the 2023-2024 tax year.
That means that if assessments and equalization rates remain unchanged, your tax rate would increase 2.5% over last year. There were changes to assessments and equalization rates in many towns in the district. (Examples: Understanding Your School Tax Bill)
