Baker, Durgee students earn 2022 CNY Scholastic Art Awards
Nineteen C.W. Baker High School students and four Durgee Junior High School students recently earned CNY Scholastic Art Awards.
Combined the students earned 34 Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mention awards in photography, sculpture, mixed media, design and drawing and painting.
The CNY Scholastic Art Awards, sponsored by M&T Bank and hosted by Onondaga Community College, has honored student artists for more than 70 years.
More than 4,600 pieces of art from thousands of students from 14 counties in Central New York were submitted for judging this year. A panel of 40 professional artists, educators and photographers select award winners during the judging process.
The high school winners come from all three areas of Baker’s art department -- Katie Herrmann (photography), Frank Chatterton (drawing and painting) and Leslie Nicoletti (sculpture). Jennifer DeCaro and Carla Senecal are the art teachers at Durgee.
The artwork will be on display at the Whitney Applied Technology Center at Onondaga Community College through March 4.
