School Safety & Emergency Information

The safety and wellbeing of students and staff is always a priority, particularly in a crisis or emergency situation.  Emergency situations can range from man-made problems such as power outages and fires to natural disasters like blizzards and floods. These may be highly dangerous situations or mere inconveniences for our students and staff.

When the Superintendent declares an emergency or the Superintendent is notified by the County Emergency Director or other authority that an emergency/disaster exists, (s)he will begin implementing the District’s emergency plan. The degree of the emergency and subsequent actions will be determined based upon information supplied by the Building Administrator of the affected building, County Emergency Coordinator, Civil Defense Officials and other authorities.

The District’s emergency management plan can be found on the District website HERE. On May 23, 2022 the Board of Education had a public hearing to review the DRAFT District Safety Plan. The public comment period for this plan ran through June 22, 2022 when the Board reviewed the final draft for approval. it was approved on June 27, 2022.

WHAT YOU CAN DO AS A PARENT - During an emergency at school or in the District, what can you do?

DISTRICT TRANSPORTATION IN AN EMERGENCY - How students will be transported home.

STUDENT RELEASE AREA - In the case of a school or district-wide crisis, the District will inform parents of a location where parents, guardians, or authorized persons (pre-arranged surrogate) can pick up students if District Transportation is unable to bring students home. 

 

We want students to help us keep their schools safe, so if you or your student were to suspect or become aware of any students or adults in a school who are planning or acting in any unsafe way, please let us know. This includes, but is not limited to, the use or possession of drugs, knives, guns, and/or threats to injure, bully, or assault others or hurt themselves.   If you or your students are not comfortable talking directly with staff at the school level, use the District’s online Tip Line on the District website to anonymously report bullying and other situations.   The Tip Line is on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and you do not have to provide your name to leave a tip. It is a fast, effective and safe way to let us know about an unsafe situation and not worry about being identified as the source of the information. Tips will be referred to school or law enforcement authorities as deemed appropriate. If the situation is an emergency, call 911 immediately.
