STUDENT SPOTLIGHT:The Board of Education honored the winner and finalists in the 2023 Holiday Greeting Card Contest.
The District Office held its annual Holiday Greeting Card Contest last month. More than 60 entries were received. The Superintendent assembled a team of judges to select 10 finalists. The artwork was placed on the district’s Facebook page for public voting during the Thanksgiving holiday. More than 2,000 votes were cast. The winner and the finalists will be honored tonight. We thank everyone who participated. Our judges had a hard job selecting the finalists and they were very impressed with the level of talent and creativity in the entries.

The Board of Education honored the fall 2023 champions!
Our Varsity Boys Soccer team won the Section III Class AAA championship. The team made it to the Class AAA state championship after winning the regional championship game and the state semifinals game.

Girls Varsity Tennis
- Girls Varsity Tennis players Sonia Nadzan and Elaina “Lainey” Nesbitt won the Sectional III Championship for Doubles and competed in the NYSPHSAA Girls Tennis Championships.
- Girls Varsity Tennis player Mira Nadzan won the Sectional III Championship for singles and competed in the NYSPHSAA Girls Tennis Championships.
- Girls Varsity Tennis player Ayla Kalfass competed in the NYSPHSAA Girls Tennis Championships in singles.

Eva Smith won the Sectional Championship in the 100-yard Backstroke and the 50-yard Freestyle. Eva also placed first in the state qualifiers in both of these events. She competed in the NYSPHSAA Girls Swimming Championships.
Olivia McManus won the Sectional Championship in the 100-yard Butterfly.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT:The Board of Education honored the winner and finalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Commended Students
Kelsey Dwyer, Emma Huhtala, Andrew Jung and Ryan Wilson have all been named commended students in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship program.
Commended students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2024 competition by taking the 2022 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test.
“Those being named commended students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”

NYSSMA All-State Performing Ensemble
The following Baldwinsville musicians have been selected for the prestigious 2023 NYSSMA All-State Performing Ensemble in Rochester - November 30 through December 3, 2023:

Boys’ State
Two members of the C.W. Baker High School Class of 2024 participated in the American Legion Boys’ State at Morrisville State College from June 25th to 30th:

Boys’ State is a week-long program that immerses soon-to-be high school seniors in citizenship and leadership training. Participants will learn the practical aspects of New York State government, and the role citizens play in the character and success of government. Under the guidance of the American Legion counselors and U.S. Marines, students will also participate in physical fitness.
Girls’ State
Four members of the C.W. Baker High School Class of 2024 participated in the American Legion Auxiliary Empire Girls State program at SUNY Brockport from July 2nd to the 8th:

ALA Empire Girls State is an educational program of the American Legion Auxiliary, developed from the concept that youth should be offered a better perspective of the practical operation of government; that the individual is an integral part and commensurably responsible for the character and success of her government. It is an activity of high educational value, born of a need for youth training in Americanism and practical good citizenship.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT:
Jude Langstaff, a Durgee Junior High School student, was honored for taking part in the 2023 Challenger Exhibition Game at the Little League World Series last month. Jude represented the Bees on the world stage and made us all proud!
Zoe Howroyd, a senior at C.W. Baker High School, was honored for her extraordinary work in creating a phenomenal promotional video for our school district during the 2023 Summer Filmmaking Camp. The popular camp was held for about 50 6th to 8th graders. Leslie Cartier, Library Media Specialist, film teacher and Baker News advisor, and Justin Ashworth, Library Media Specialist and Ray News advisor, led the camp. Zoe was a counselor at the camp. More than 1,000 students participated in our 2023 Summer Enrichment Programs, which included the following camps, Building Upon Success, Athletic Camp, Music Camp Extravaganza, STEAM Camp and Filmmaking Camp. Watch highlight video here.
