Baldwinsville Community Athletic Hall of Fame inductees to be honored on June 6th

The induction ceremony of the Baldwinsville Community Athletic Hall of Fame will be held during the Baldwinsville Central School District’s annual Athletic Awards at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 6th. The ceremony will be held at the beginning of the Athletic Awards, which will honor varsity student-athletes for their outstanding performances during the 2023-2024 school year.

The Baldwinsville Community Athletic Hall of Fame was revamped this year after a long hiatus and the public was asked to nominate former athletes, coaches and supporters who made significant contributions to the Baldwinsville Central School District athletic program through their service, performance, dedication, commitment and accomplishments. The nomination committee selected eight athletes and one coach to be inducted into the 2024 Baldwinsville Community Athletic Hall of Fame. 

Here are the inductees:

Kathryn Arcaro: Class of 1983

Award winning three-season varsity athlete who competed in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and basketball. She won multiple championships in cross country and track. She also competed in distance running events and placed 18th in the US National cross country meet in 1981. She was the leading scorer and MVP on the basketball team and as a senior received the

American High School Athlete Award. She played basketball and ran cross country at Le Moyne College where she won numerous awards and was named The Female Athlete of the year in 1987. She currently coaches varsity soccer, basketball and flag football. 
 

Ken (Ike) Burton: Class of 1951

Award winning three-season varsity athlete who competed in football, basketball and baseball. Part of the baseball team that etched an unprecedented 46-game winning streak into the archives of the sport – the longest ever recorded nationwide. This remarkable achievement earned the team recognition at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, where they had the honor of playing an exhibition game on the hallowed field as the 1950 divisional champions.

 

Mike Conners: Class of 1980

Award winning two-season varsity athlete who competed in football and wrestling. He was an All-American wrestler, earned the Section III title and won the 177-pound weight class in the  NYSPHSAA Championship during his senior year. He excelled in both sports at 

St. Lawrence University and helped both teams bring home championships. He’s in multiple halls of fame for both wrestling and football, and also for coaching.

Brian Corcoran: Class of 1990

Award winning three-season varsity athlete who competed in football, hockey and lacrosse. He was the key player in two league championships in hockey, helped the football team win two sectional championships and was MVP at the sectional All-Star game for lacrosse. He played football and hockey at the University of Massachusetts where he was an All-American. He accepted a professional hockey contract and played three seasons.

 

Jason Grilli: Class of 1994

Talented baseball pitcher who caught the eye of scouts and was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 24th round. However, he chose to hone his skills at Seton Hall University, where he excelled and earned multiple All Big East honors. He was the 4th overall pick in the 1997 MLB Draft and played for nine major league franchises, amassing an impressive 694 strikeouts in 684 2/3 innings pitched over 595 games.

 

Earl Howard: Class of 1956

Award winning three-season varsity athlete who competed in football, basketball and baseball. He was the quarterback and team captain, and earned All-County honors. His leadership qualities were further exemplified when his peers elected him as the class president in his sophomore, junior and senior years. He served 20 years in the U.S. Army and retired with the esteemed rank of Lieutenant Colonel. 

 

Betsy Towlson DeMay: Class of 1977

Award winning three-season varsity athlete who competed in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. She was an elite runner who won hundreds of races in meets and invitationals that ranged from sprints to long distances. She finished high school earning the Goodfellow (Outstanding Female Athlete) Award.

 

Christine Lindsey: Class of 1994

Award winning three-season varsity athlete who competed in tennis, volleyball and lacrosse. 

In tennis, she contributed to Baldwinsville’s first-ever sectional doubles title. She played lacrosse at Georgetown University and was First Team All-American for three years. She was a member of the 2005 Silver Medal US World Cup Lacrosse team.

 

Chuck Wiltse: Coach – 1963 to 1986

Award winning varsity and junior varsity cross country coach who initiated modified cross country, indoor track and outdoor track programs in 1964 and beyond, and promoted the Baldwinsville High school girls’ cross country team in 1970.
