District hires five Special Patrol Resource Officers to serve the elementary schools

The Baldwinsville Central School District hired five new officers to serve and protect our elementary schools. The Special Patrol Resource Officers come from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and the Baldwinsville Police Department. 

Combined they represent more than 130 years of service to our community. The district now has an officer assigned to each of our eight school buildings. 

Meet the new SPROs:

Marty Knaul

“Officer Marty”
Elden Elementary School 
Retired from the Baldwinsville Police Department
Served 28 years, including 13 as a SRO with the BCSD
Officer Marty said he missed working with students and was eager to come back to the district after retiring in 2021 as the SRO at C.W. Baker High School. 

Jim Cerankowski

“Officer Jim”
Van Buren Elementary School
Retired from the Baldwinsville Police Department
Served 22 years
Officer Jim said he was approached by the police chief about the SRPO position. “I couldn't think of a better reason to return to work than to protect the kids!”

Keith Lawrence

“Officer Lawrence” 
Palmer Elementary School
Retired from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office
Served 22 years
Officer Lawrence said he was excited to work in an elementary school because he likes kids. “They’re a lot of fun to be around!” 

Sean Guerrina

“Deputy G”
Reynolds Elementary School
Retired from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office
Served 25 years
“I jumped at the chance to work with kids,” Guerrina said, who previously worked with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Abused Person Unit. Deputy G hopes to build positive relationships with the students. “I’m already witnessing kids responding in a positive way to my presence here.” 

Carl Kruger

“Deputy Kruger”
McNamara Elementary School
Retired from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office
Served 37 years
Deputy Kruger said the shooting at Robb Elementary School in May 2022 in Uvalde, Texas had a major impact on him. “It’s been weighing on my mind and I knew it was time to come back.”
