Baker Students Earn Awards in Art & Academics

Several Baker High School students earned awards and honors in April in academics and art.
 
New York State Seal of Biliteracy - In order to earn the seal students must demonstrate proficiency in a second language by defending their portfolios in front of a panel of evaluators at OCM BOCES. The following students will have the Seal of Biliteracy affixed to their diplomas upon graduation: Maura Bartell, Owen Bauer, Elizabeth Mautz, Cooper Pyle, Mackenzie Randolph, Iham Rodriguez, Abigail Scherfling, Mitchell Stables, Jason Steiger, and Stephanie Stroup.
 
Young Writers’ Poetry Escape Contest Winners - Traven Palmer, Cara Weaver, Sabrina DiGiorgio, and Rachel Blake had their poems selected from those of 2000 writers entered in the competition.  All four students will have their work published in the book “Poetry Escape – Tri-State Poets.”
 
Central New York Art Guild 2019 Annual High School Senior Show and Competition  - Seniors Holly Abbott, Dana Prokop, Anna Cutie, and Abbie Donahue will have their artwork on exhibit at the Edgewood Gallery in Syracuse until May 3, 2019.
 
Anna Cutie was awarded second place in the competition for her ceramic piece, Holly Abbott received the Aqua Media Award, and Dana Prokop received an honorable mention for her artwork.
 
Storr All High Photo Show – Senior Gavin Burns was awarded Best Documentary/Photojournalism Photo. Junior Natalie Doback received the Merit Award for Baker High School.
 
NYS Math League Championship – Senior Lauren Lammers was one of only 34 students in the county selected to compete on Team Onondaga at the state championship.
