Announcements for Friday, April 5, 2024
April 5, 2024
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Staff,
It was a busy week for our Bees and this weekend is packed with exciting activities and contests. As we prepare for next week, I wanted to make sure that our families are aware of the schedule for releasing students early on Monday, April 8th due to the total solar eclipse. Elementary schools have announced dismissal times for Monday and we anticipate students being dropped off to their homes as early as 12:30 p.m. Our Ray Middle School and Baker High School students will dismiss no later than 1:30 p.m. and Durgee Junior High School by 1:40 p.m. depending on the arrival of our buses following our elementary bus runs. Please check ParentSquare for messages from your child’s principal regarding dismissal.
A few other important calendar reminders are below:
- Modified spring sports will begin on Tuesday, April 9th.
- There is no school for students on Wednesday, April 10th for a Superintendent’s Conference Day
- Spring Break starts on Friday, April 19th.
I have a few other announcements to share with you today:
New Principals Named:
We are pleased to announce that on Monday evening, the Board of Education appointed new principals for Elden Elementary and Reynolds Elementary schools. Joelle Fiorini will serve as the new principal of Elden and Kathleen “Kate” Liddle was named the new principal at Reynolds. Both principals will start on July 1, 2024. Learn more about Joelle and Kate on our website. Both of these educators bring with them a wealth of experience and knowledge. We’re very excited to welcome Joelle back to Baldwinsville and welcome Kate to our hive!
Championship Weekend:
Mid-York Color Guard Circuit Championships will be held at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park on Saturday. Our ERA, JV and Varsity Winter Guard teams are competing. This week, I had the opportunity to see the Varsity championship show and say thank you to our seniors. The show is fantastic! Go Bees! Our ERA team performs at 10:15 a.m., our JV team goes on at 1 p.m. and our Varsity team performs at 5:20 p.m. Go Bees!
On Saturday, our Indoor Drumline competes at the New York State Percussion Championships at Gates Chili High School in Rochester. The Bees perform at 2:10 p.m. Go Bees!
Athletics:
We made school history this week with our first Girls Varsity Flag Football game. I had the honor to be in attendance and watch the team win its first game 40-0. It was very fun and exciting to watch, and I encourage our community to check out a game this season! Our other spring sports are also back in action with competitions and it looks like it’s going to be a very exciting season for our teams! Keep up the hard work, Bees!
Congratulations:
Thirteen C.W. Baker High School students have received a total of 20 awards in the 2024 Scholastic Writing Awards competition. See list of winners on our website! Go Bees!
Music Education Designation:
Our district has been honored for its commitment to music education for the 15th year in a row. The NAMM Foundation has recognized the school district with a 2024 Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) designation. Receiving this honor every year is a reflection of the incredible music educators we have working with our students
Please continue to check ParentSquare, your email and our website, for important updates. As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. Have a great weekend! Go Bees!
Sincerely,
Dr. Joseph M. DeBarbieri
