Dear Parents of the Baldwinsville Central Schools:
As you know, the district was notified of the passing of Maya “Marshall” Pickard on Monday, March 20th. We have been working closely with the family to ensure that they have the support they need during this difficult time and that their wishes are respected.
The district is providing counseling support for students and staff in all buildings with a concentration at Durgee Junior High School and Ray Middle School. We will continue to provide support for the foreseeable future for staff and students as needed.
We are working collaboratively with Baldwinsville Police Department based on social media posts surrounding this incident. We take all allegations and reports seriously and will be investigating these social media claims. We ask that reports come to the school so we can follow up on any specific information to substantiate these comments. Regardless of the accuracy of these claims the district intends to be proactive in ensuring the safety and well- being of all students. We encourage all students and families to come forward with concerns.
Attached, please find additional support resources to assist with talking with your children during a crisis, coping with grief and where to go to obtain support if necessary.
