Giving back to the community: Baker students help update 'Welcome' sign

C.W. Baker High School Production Systems Technology Class worked collaboratively with Baldwinsville Rotary Club and Atlantic Sign Company to update the Welcome to Baldwinsville sign on Route 370 entering the village.

Picture from left to right is Mrs. Katie Reap (Reynolds Elementary, Baldwinsville Rotary Club Sign Update Chairperson), Student Engineers Derek Morich, Erin Gregoire, Nicholas Foster, and Mr. Jamie Cuyler (Baker HIgh School Tech Class- Production Systems Instructor). Not pictured is collaborator John McFall (owner of Atlantic Sign Company of Baldwinsville).

Students seized the opportunity to use Rotary funding and skills learned in Mr. Cuyler's class for the benefit of our community. Erin Gregioir suggested the new bridge design "due to it being a historical landmark in the center of Baldwinsville."

The overall project took about a year to complete. Nick Foster stated that "building, designing and seeking approval of the sign together took a lot of time, but that is needed when you want to give back to a community and show visitors how nice your town is."

Derek Morich enjoyed the project so much he is further "inspired to further explore the trades" after graduation.
