Baldwinsville students shine at VEX Robotics Competition
Thirty-three teams competed Saturday in the VEX Robotics Competition held at C.W. Baker High School.
VEX releases a different competition and course every year. This year it’s “tower takeover” and students have been working for months to code, design and build a robot that will score as many points as possible in head-to-head competition.
Many Baldwinsville teams shined during the competition and two teams went home with trophies.
Team 7323X pi, which includes Brea Murdock, Bryce Murdock, Ally Hunt, Josie Libbon and Elyssa Adams, was awarded the Excellence Award after making it to the final round of competition. This award is presented to a team that exemplifies overall excellence in creating a high quality VEX Robotics program.
This is the second time the team has won this award this season. The award wins the team an opportunity to compete at the state competition on February 29 at the Oncenter in Syracuse.
Josie Libbon said it felt so amazing to win the Excellence Award.
“It was so great to win it at B’ville too,” she said.
Matt Hudson, the robotics club advisor, said this team has an impressive engineering notebook and is well-rounded.
“They’ve excelled all year,” Hudson said. “They are a great team and they work well together.”
Team 7323E Minotaur, which includes 9th graders from Durgee Junior High School, was awarded the design award at the competition. The team includes William Castellino, Cam Conger, Caley Gee, Erin Gee, Connor Hays, Olivia Popielarski, Olivia Wafer, Paige Bohman and Connor Tutor.
The team won the award for their robot design and notebook, Hudson said.
“The judges said this team had one of the best notebooks that they looked at,” he said.
Hudson said it was a very successful tournament that ran smoothly due to the hard work and dedication of the volunteers.
“I can’t thank the volunteers enough,” Hudson said. “We couldn’t do this without them.”
