School Library Media Services

  • All media collections are reviewed and selected by a school district employee who holds a valid educational media specialist certificate.  The Charlotte County Public Schools Library Media Center Collection Development Policies and Procedures for developing library media center collections was followed. s. 1006.28(2)(d)1,2,

  • Upon written request, an individual will be provided access to material or books specified in the written request that are maintained in a district library if such material or books are available for review. The school principal shall arrange for a convenient time to provide such access.

    Parents of students attending a public school in the district or residents of Charlotte County (Petitioners) may object to the use of specific material found in a school district media center. The petitioner shall first discuss his/her concerns about the materials with the school principal or designee. If the discussions with the principal or designee do not resolve the petitioner's concerns, any objections shall be presented in writing on the District's Request for Reconsideration of Instructional Materials form (FORM 2522-2)

    According to  F.S. 1006.28, Duties of district school board, district school superintendent, and school principal regarding K-12 instructional materials, “Each district school board shall adopt and publish on its website the process for a parent to limit his or her student’s access to materials in the school or classroom library.”  Parents or guardians wishing to restrict their child’s access to school library media materials or a teacher’s classroom library materials are to download and complete this form in its entirety and submit the form to the school’s principal.
