Measles Information

Earlier this year, a large measles outbreak occurred in Clark County. On May 14, 2019 the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department confirmed a second case of measles in Pierce County.  At this time, there are no known cases in Pierce County and no known cases in University Place.

Most adults and children have been vaccinated against the measles. The vaccination is safe and effective, preventing the spread of the illness nearly 100% of the time. The health department recommends that everyone be vaccinated.  For more information about the measles and/or measles vaccination, visit www.tpchd.org/measles.

If a case of the measles is reported in University Place School District we will notify parents and staff promptly.  We will also work closely with the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department and follow their guidance on containment and prevention.  

Call your doctor immediately if you see symptoms of measles.  It's important to tell your doctor that you have symptoms of measles before you go.  They will give you instructions for what to do so that you don't spread measles.
