UPSD Academic and Student Well-Being Recovery Plan
The American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ARP ESSER) Fund under the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act of 2021 provides funding for eligible school districts to use to address school reopening needs, academic recovery and learning loss. In order to access these funds, school districts must take specific actions which include:
Gathering public input to inform the plan
Using a specific template to create the plan designed by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) to ensure that all required components are in place, including an Equity Analysis Tool.
Securing board approval of the plan
Posting the plan on the district website where it is accessible to those with disabilities and those in the community whose language is one other than English.
Submitting the plan to the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) by June 1, 2021.
OSPI has determined that school board approval meets the federal requirement for seeking public comment. In addition, UPSD has collected more than 1,000 responses in a staff and parent survey sent out to all staff and families in May, 2021. Direct input has also been gathered in meetings with multiple parent and student groups during this same time period.
The UPSD School Board formally approved the plan at their regular meeting on May 12, 2021 via the consent agenda.
Submitting and implementing the plan
The plan, in the template form required by OSPI, is posted here. The OSPI plan/template also requires the identification of a district Equity Analysis Tool.
Moving forward, we will continue to implement, monitor and adjust our plans based on input, evolving understanding of student needs and observable results.
