Supporting local youth, landscapes, and communities of Skamania County
Forest Youth Success Participants, 2022
JOIN OUR TEAM
Forest Youth Success has been employing Skamania County Youth for two decades. As a PAID, non-residential, day program for youth ages 14-18, we offer teens a unique working opportunity to complete service projects in their community during the day and return home each night. Throughout the program, mentors and crew members develop positive life skills that support their path towards a productive life. Crews spend the summer working alongside resource management professionals in the community to assist them in achieving infrastructure and ecosystem management objectives. Throughout the summer, crews learn to work together not just as co-workers, but as friends and teammates!
WORK SCHEDULE
The crews will work for an average of six weeks, July-August. Members will spend an average of seven hours working on projects, Monday-Thursday. Fridays are dedicated to educational learning opportunities.
LEADERSHIP & THE ENVIRONMENT
The program is designed to expose youth to local forests and introduce them to the expectations of various work experiences. Participants will learn how to operate as part of a team, practice leadership skills, engage in community projects, and learn about local forest ecology. Throughout the summer, mentors and crew members participate in the 4-H Challenge & Adventure Curriculum. During these activities, participants improve their teamwork, communication, problem-solving, responsibility, decision-making, self-efficacy, and reflection skills. These skills can be applied to the classroom, on-site project work, and learning to be an active member of a team.
