Welcome Back Letter From Sand Creek Administration

Dear Sand Creek Families,

Welcome to a new school year at Sand Creek Middle School. We would like to welcome all of our new families to Sand Creek and welcome back all of our returning families. While there is still plenty of summer left to enjoy, we want to take a moment to provide some important information about the upcoming school year.

The 2019-20 school year begins for all of our students on Thursday, September 5. The school day will begin promptly each morning with homeroom/period one starting at 8:08 am. As was the case last school year, we ask that students not be dropped off to the building prior to 7:45 am each school day . Breakfast is available for student purchase in the cafeteria from 7:55 am until homeroom begins at 8:08 am.

During the week of August 26-29, locker orientations will be held in the building, providing students and families a chance to review their locker assignments and to drop off necessary supplies. Orientation will be held from 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm each day and the schedule for the week is as follows:

  • August 26 – Grade 8
  • August 27 – Grade 7
  • August 28 – Grade 6
  • August 29 – Grade 5

Students who are unable to attend their assigned orientation date will receive their locker assignments in homeroom on opening day and will have the opportunity to drop off their supplies that morning.

Please save the date for Sand Creek’s annual Open House event. The evening of Thursday, September 19 will be the date for our seventh and eighth grade families and Wednesday, September 25 will be the date for our fifth and sixth grade families.

Throughout the school year, we will be using the front page of ASPEN to share important dates and information with students and families. Please be sure to check the parent portal regularly for updates and contact the student services office if you are in need of assistance in accessing this information. Student schedules will be available for viewing on the portal beginning on Wednesday, August 21 .

A change that we want to update everyone on for the coming school year is our newly updated middle school criteria for honor roll and high honor roll recognition. This school year, we will recognize students for honor roll when they achieve a cumulative average of 90% while passing all of their course work. High honor roll recognition will be bestowed upon students who achieve a cumulative average of 95% while passing all of their course work .

We look forward to recognizing the hard work and academic achievement of our students throughout each of the four quarters using this new criteria! We are looking forward to working together with all of our families. As our theme for the year suggests, we are excited for a year filled with positive possibilities for all of our students and look forward to seeing everyone again soon!

Sincerely,

Michael Marohn, Sand Creek Building Principal
James Vardaro, Associate Principal, Gr. 7-8
Brian Scalzo, Administrative Dean, Gr. 5-6
