Welcome Back: Embracing Our 75-Year Legacy

This information was emailed to all South Colonie families on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m.

Dear Students, Parents, Teachers, and Staff,

As we embark on a brand new school year, I am delighted to share with you the incredible milestone we will achieve together this school year – our 75th anniversary as a school community!

Throughout our long history, our district has been a beacon of knowledge, fostering a spirit of innovation, growth and inclusivity. Today, as we look back at our humble beginnings which began on February 5,1949 when voters approved the merger of West Albany, Roessleville, Colonie Village, Maywood, Karner and Shaker Road to one school district by a vote of 1083 to 680.

Fast forward just six years later to September 1954… students were setting foot in Colonie Central High for the first time, despite the school building not being fully completed. It was the embodiment of our community’s resilience and commitment to providing an exceptional education, no matter the circumstances. With ten school buses transformed into classrooms, students embraced their learning journey with eagerness and excitement.

Can you imagine learning on this bus?

This year, we honor that same spirit as we enter this new academic chapter. Our 75th anniversary serves as a reminder of the strong foundation upon which we stand, and the endless possibilities that await our students and educators.

As we embark on this new academic year, let’s take a moment to reflect on the shared values and aspirations that shape our educational community. The latest update on our Vision 2025 plan can be found here.

Together, let’s make this year one of discovery, growth, and unity. Let’s celebrate our rich history and build upon it as we venture into the next generation of Colonie.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each one of you for your continued commitment to our shared vision. As we celebrate our 75th anniversary, I am confident that the memories we create together will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Wishing you all a successful and fulfilling school year ahead!

Proudly Colonie
