Superintendent’s Letter Regarding Increased Security at Albany and Troy Schools

October 21, 2019

Dear South Colonie parents,

On local news broadcasts this morning, there was a report of an increased security presence at both Albany and Troy city schools. While there were no specific details given, the broadcast stated that this was in response to threats circulated on social media.

At approximately 8:00 a.m., we became aware of conversations taking place with some South Colonie students related to the threats in Albany. Based upon these conversations, an investigation was conducted in conjunction with Colonie Police. As a result, it was determined that the conversations that took place this morning were an extension of the issues that are currently being addressed in Albany and were not related specifically to South Colonie.

Following the investigation, school operations continued as they normally would. In an abundance of caution, Colonie Police provided an increased presence at all South Colonie schools throughout the school day today. We will continue to work collaboratively with law enforcement to investigate any new information and to provide a safe learning environment for all of our students.

As always, we encourage you to contact the school if you have any specific questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Jonathan Buhner
South Colonie Superintendent of Schools
