Samantha Palombo, a 6th-grade student at Lisha Kill Middle School brought smiles to many residents at the Heritage Home for Women over the school holiday break. This week she was recognized by the Superintendent of schools Dr. David Perry at the January 17 Board meeting.

Acts of kindness big and small are what the holiday season is all about. This year one South Colonie student took this sentiment to heart.

Samantha Palombo, a 6th-grade student at Lisha Kill Middle School brought smiles to many residents at the Heritage Home for Women over the school holiday break.

Located in Schenectady, Heritage Home for Women provides individuals with the ability to live independently, free from the daily burdens of maintaining a private residencewith the option for assistance with personal care needs, managing medications, and much more.

Heritage Home for Women is a place Palombo and her family hold close to their hearts. Ten years ago her great-grandmother lived there for several years before she passed away.  In just a few months, she would have been 100 years old.

With the anniversary of her passing and milestone birthday upcoming, Palombo and her family thought it would be a perfect time to visit the home and gift each resident a handmade bracelet made by the 6th-grade student.

“Samantha may have put a smile on their faces but they sure put a smile on ours and brought back lots of wonderful memories,” Samantha’s mom stated in a recent online post.

Recently, Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perry invited Samantha and her parents to attend the Jan. 17  board meeting to be recognized for her kindness.

“We are proud to recognize Samantha during this Superintendent’s Spotlight,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perry.

“It is great to see our South Colonie students getting involved and dedicating their time to give back.  I know Samantha and her family have a personal connection to the Heritage House but it is not often you see a 6th-grade student give up her time this way, “he added. “We are proud to invite her here this evening and recognize her for spreading kindness this holiday season. I also want to thank our Board Member Chris Larrabee for sharing this special story with us.”
