May marks the beginning of mental health awareness month. In light of the ongoing work to best support South Colonie students and families, the district’s mental health team is coming together to host its first wellness fair.
The inaugural event will take place on Thursday, April 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the CCHS Mug and will feature health and wellness information, activities for students, and interactive stations for South Colonie families.
“We wanted to provide a one-stop-shop for our families to come out and learn about the available resources within our community,” said director of special education Melissa Willman. “Our hope is that if we continue to bridge the gap between these resources and the families we serve, they will be more equipped to support the health and wellness needs that arise.”
In addition to focusing on mental health, there will be a physical health component to the fair.
“We know that health and wellness is all-encompassing. It’s important for students and families to have both their physical and mental health needs met,” Willman added. “Our plan is to have a fun interactive obstacle course, yoga for the kids, among other activities that promote wellness among our families.”
