It may look a little different this year, with school closures and empty cafeterias, but the celebration of School Lunch Hero Day on May 1, has never been more important. Among the frontline heroes in the COVID-19 pandemic, include our Food Service Department employees who have continued to step up to the task of feeding South Colonie students.
In just seven weeks, South Colonie employees have served nearly 10,000 meals. Both school nutrition and transportation employees are working together to ensure that our students are continuing to receive school meals each weekday while school buildings are closed.
“It’s important for us to stop and take a moment to recognize the important work for our essential staff members,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perry. “We have all had to shift gears during this unprecedented time to continue serving our families and our Food Service Department has done a tremendous job of working collaboratively to do so. Not only have they been providing meals to students but they are continuing to create an inviting environment for families. I am proud of the work they are doing.”
