South Colonie begins COVID testing for staff; Reports zero positive results at the high school

Dear South Colonie School Community,

As a proactive measure and efforts to keep the school community safe, the South Colonie Central School District began testing onsite staff at Colonie Central High School.  During the testing period which occurred during a practice day last week and two testing days this week, a total of 119 staff members were tested yielding zero positive test results.

While there is no requirement or mandate currently to test, we felt strongly that utilizing the rapid nasal swab test to screen our staff and eventually our students will be helpful to assist in decisions regarding the safety and well being of our school community. Testing for staff will continue at middle and elementary levels in the coming weeks. Additionally, transportation, support staff, and district personnel will also be tested as part of the onsite staff members who are tested.  All positive results will be included in our daily COVID notification email and a summary will be provided at the end of the month.

In preparation for testing of students scheduled to begin in early February, the district is still asking parents to consider giving consent for rapid testing.

We are grateful for your continued patience and support as we adapt and adjust to evolving guidance. Our priority is to continue to provide the best instructional program that we can in the safest environment for our students and faculty.

Please reach out to your building principal directly and/or the district’s COVID-19 Coordinator Christopher Robilotti if you have any questions about the testing program.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Perry
Superintendent of Schools
