The South Colonie Central School District today announced the appointment of Mr. James Brown, currently a STEM teacher at Sand Creek Middle School, as On-site Energy Manager for the district. Mr. Brown was officially appointed by the Board of Education on Tuesday, January 18.

As part of that role, Brown will be responsible for introducing conservation efforts within the district, reviewing resources and determining areas in need of improvement and identifying energy saving projects and initiatives to improve district facilities.

“The District is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Brown to On-site Energy Manager at South Colonie,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Perry. “This position provides us with insight into how our campus buildings can have opportunities to operate efficiently, while analyzing energy costs and improving the quality of our facilities for the school community.”

The position is partially funded through a grant provided by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). The On-site Energy Manager (OsEM) program provides funding for a dedicated on-site energy manager to review opportunities to improve operations and maintenance, identify energy efficiency upgrades, water saving improvements, and more.

Mr. Brown received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Distribution from Clarkson University and has a Masters of Science and Teaching from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. In addition to his teaching credentials, he is a Certified Energy Manager through the Association of Energy Engineers and has over 20 years experience in building auditing and energy management of educational facilities.

He begins his part-time appointment effective Feb 1.
