South Colonie appoints four new administrators for the 2023-24 school year

On Tuesday, May 30 the South Colonie Board of Education approved the appointment of four new administrators to join the leadership team. Please join us in welcoming and supporting these individuals as they embark on their respective roles at South Colonie.

Special Education Supervisor 5-8

Michelle Goo

Michelle Goo, currently serves as the administrative dean/CSE Chairperson for grades 5-8, has been appointed to be the special education supervisor for grades 5-8. Goo holds a bachelor of science degree in childhood education from SUNY Cortland and a master of education degree in educational leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University. With her experience as a special education teacher in South Colonie since 2018 and her recent role as the administrative dean at Lisha Kill, Goo brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this important leadership position.

Lisha Kill Associate Principal

Mark Millington

Mark Millington will join the South Colonie Central School District as the new associate principal at Lisha Kill Middle School, replacing Christopher Leahey who is slated to retire at the end of this school year. Millington is currently an assistant principal at Schenectady’s School of Humanities, and he previously served as the dean of students and Social Studies teacher in the Troy City School District. Millington holds a bachelor of arts degree in adolescent education social studies from SUNY Oneonta, a master of arts degree in educational technology from SUNY Oneonta, and a school building leader certificate from MCLA. With his extensive experience at various educational levels, Millington is well equipped to contribute to the continued success of the Lisha Kill school community. 

Sand Creek Associate Principal

Rachel Fazioli

Rachel Fazioli will begin her new role as associate principal at Sand Creek Middle School for the 2023-24 school year. Fazioli currently serves as the alternative education teacher at Sand Creek Middle School and has previous experience as a reading specialist and Social Studies teacher in Buffalo, NY. Fazioli holds a bachelor of arts degree in history from LeMoyne College, a master of arts degree in education from SUNY Buffalo, a certificate of advanced studies in literacy from Mercy College, and a master of science degree in educational administration from Mercy College. With her diverse background and passion for education, Fazioli will be instrumental in continuing to support the growth and development of students at Sand Creek Middle School.

Lisha Kill Administrative Internship/Dean of Students

Janae Vanderpoel

We are pleased to announce that Janae Vanderpoel has been selected for the administrative internship/dean of students position at Lisha Kill for the 2023-24 school year. Vanderpoel has been a science teacher at Lisha Kill since 2017 and completed a semester internship under Dr. Tresansky last spring. She holds a bachelor of science degree in biology from the University at Albany, a master of science degree in childhood education from Mercy College, and an advanced certificate in school building leadership and school district leadership from Molloy University. In her new role, Vanderpoel will contribute her expertise as a teacher on special assignment, supporting the administrative team and fostering a positive school environment.

“We are excited to welcome these talented individuals to our administration team,” said Dr. Perry Superintendent of Schools. “We are confident that these individuals will bring their skills, dedication and passion to their new roles, further enhancing the educational journey for our students and strengthening our school community. We congratulate them on their appointments and look forward to the positive impact they will have in their respective positions.” 

All appointments are expected to begin July 1.
