Sand Creek Middle School teacher Stacey Sebert (left) was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award at the Science Teachers Association of New York State’s (STANYS) annual conference on Nov. 9.
This award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to science education. Awardees had to describe their vision of what constitutes excellence in science teaching and learning, how they make that philosophy a reality both inside and outside of their classroom, and how they demonstrate success in implementing that philosophy. In addition, awardees demonstrate a strong involvement in professional development activities by attending and giving workshops, publishing materials, teaching courses, and earning grants.
Their work showcases excellence in teaching, leading, and providing opportunities for all students to participate in and learn science.The awards chair stated that she read many supportive letters from students and that those letters showed how much they cared for their teacher. Stacey was unanimously given this award by the STANYS awards committee.
