Story written by Sand Creek student: Kristine Kim
Mrs. Pastuszak’s eighth grade Social Studies students had an ‘E Pluribus Unum’ potluck lunch at Sand Creek Middle School this month.
The meaning of ‘E Pluribus Unum’ is, “out of many, one.” This means that although we may all be different, we are still united. Everyone is different and does things in different ways, but still, we are all joined as one.
Each student in the class had a role to play. You could bring in food based on your ethnicity or nationality, take part in the set-up or clean-up crews, bring in utensils to eat with, write invitations to invite others, or write an article based on the potluck. The purpose of this event was to get students to learn more about each other’s ethnicities and fully understand the phrase, ‘E Pluribus Unum’. This potluck helped students understand that everyone is special in their own little way and that we need to respect each other’s uniqueness. No matter how different we are from one another, we still live as one.
