Saddlewood Elementary teacher named winner in Staples US Retail ‘Thank A Teacher’ program

On Wednesday, December 9, Staples US Retail officially announced the winners of its ‘Thank A Teacher’ program. For 2020, Saddlewood Elementary teacher Mrs. Norton was selected as part of their campaign. The nationwide program, which gives parents and students a platform to recognize a teacher who goes above and beyond to make a positive impact, selected 20 stand-out teachers across the country for the recognition. Each teacher was awarded with $5,000 in Staples gift cards to help their school purchase the supplies and equipment needed to support their students – no matter where they’re learning.

According to Staples US Retail announcement, “Teachers play a pivotal role in the lives of every student, and during this unique and challenging school year, acknowledging their impact is more important than ever. Thousands of parents, students and colleagues across the country took this opportunity to do just that, and each story submitted to the Thank A Teacher contest is a testament to just how remarkable our teachers are.”

Recently, WTEN’s Anya Tucker spent time with one of our South Colonie students to feature her strength and determination in her battle with cancer. The interview highlights Charlie, her parents, and her teacher Mrs. Norton, revealing their close bond. The interview will also spotlight how, through the help of Charlie’s parents, Mrs. Norton was selected to win $5K for classroom supplies from Staples during their national #ThankATeacher campaign. Learn how this special student continues to ride the bus, interacts with her classmates, and completes day-to-day activities while undergoing treatment. You’ll even learn about a few furry friends she has in her classroom!

We hope you find Charlie and Mrs. Norton’s relationship as inspirational and special as we do.

Congratulations to Mrs. Norton for making our district and community a better place.

We thank you.
