On Thursday, April 23, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) released its accountability designations under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan. Saddlewood Elementary received the highest standard as a “Recognition School” for the 2020-21 school year while all other South Colonie schools met the “Good Standing” accountability status criteria.
Under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan, Recognition Schools are those with high academic achievement and strong progress, that also perform acceptably for all subgroups for which they are accountable. Subgroups include members of racial and ethnic groups, low-income students, students with disabilities, and English language learners. Saddlewood Elementary was one of 582 schools that achieved this status in New York state.
“We are proud to know that all of our schools are in good standing,” said Dr. Perry, superintendent of schools. “We work really hard to help ensure equity for our students and are thrilled to see the hard work of our teachers and administrators come to light with the release of this report. A special congratulations to our faculty and staff at Saddlewood.”
“These are exemplary public schools that demonstrate that all students can achieve at high levels with the right supports and resources,” Board of Regents Chancellor Betty A. Rosa said in a statement released by NYSED. “Recognition Schools help to ensure equity for all children across New York State. The Regents and I are grateful to all of the teachers and administrators who, in concerted effort with their school communities, are guiding our students toward success.”
Saddlewood Elementary will receive a certificate of recognition from the Commissioner. Of the identified schools in New York, 232 are New York City public schools; 313 are public schools in the rest of the state; and 37 are public charter schools, of which 35 are located in New York City.
