Graduation is right around the corner! As our students prepare to take their next steps, the Counseling Center and the College and Career Planning Center put together a few different events to show students all the opportunities available to them. Trades, careers in the military, and higher education options were highlighted.

The centers held a Skilled Trades Apprenticeship Information Night in the High School orchestra room. Students and their families heard from panelists about employment opportunities, benefits, wages, the hiring process and more. Representatives from different trades sat on the panel and were able to answer questions from curious students.

Almost 40 public and private colleges and universities, as well as area employers, joined Colonie High School for the College and Career Fair in the PIT gymnasium. Booths were set up so students could have the opportunity to discuss and explore post-secondary plans with people directly from each organization.

Representatives from almost every branch of the military visited the high school during lunch periods. Students were able to talk to the representatives individually and ask any questions they may have to see if a career in the military would be a good fit for them.

At the end of the week, seniors were invited to wear their choice for Senior Decision Day. “While the traditional College Decision Day is just about college choices, at South Colonie, we celebrate ALL of our seniors, including those entering the military, going to trade schools, employment, college, or anything else,” said Kristin Mesick, Coordinator for the College and Career Planning Center. “We are excited to see what our students will achieve in the future!”
