Incoming sophomore Sienna Wheeler was recently awarded the 2022 Girls ages 13-15 Player of The Year Award from the Northeastern New York Golf Association. Wheeler placed first in the 2022 NENY Junior Tournament Golf Series with first in points standing after winning two tournaments and multiple top three finishes. She has been on the Colonie Varsity Golf Team since the 7th grade.
We got to chat with Wheeler and learn more about her amazing journey.

How often do you practice?
I practice every single day unless I need a rest day due to soreness or if I have just played in a multiple-day tournament. If the weather is not good I use my golf simulator at home.

What sparked your interest in golf?
Watching my dad, who is a competitive amateur player. He started teaching me the basics of golf around the age of four.

What was your reaction to winning this award?
I was happy, it felt good to look back and see all of the progress I’ve made in the last year. It showed me that all of my training and practice throughout the winter months paid off.

What advice do you have for girls interested in getting into golf?
My advice is that you can be as good as you think you can be. Practicing and becoming familiar with the sport of golf will create confidence for a future to continue the game.

What future do you see with your golf career?
I would love to get into a good college and play on their golf team. I also would like to continue to play in amateur tournaments after college.

What is your favorite thing about golf?
My favorite thing about golf is that there are so many key facets to the game. You don’t just hit with one club and you don’t play the same course every single round. Every shot is different, I enjoy the challenge of the game.
