New SRO to join CCHS for 2023-24 school year; District bids farewell to OG

South Colonie recently announced the appointment of Officer Berkery to Colonie Central High School as the new School Resource Officer for the upcoming 2023-24 academic year. With his impressive law enforcement background and dedication to community service, Officer Berkery is poised to make a positive impact on the school community and ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for students and staff.

Officer Berkery is a lifelong resident of the Town of Colonie and brings with him a wealth of experience in law enforcement. With nine years of service under his belt, he has already established himself as a respected officer within the community. His commitment to public safety extends beyond his regular patrol duties, as he has served as an advisor for the Police Department’s Cadet Post for over five years. Additionally, Officer Berkery has been a Field Training Officer, helping to mentor and guide new police officers. His dedication to physical fitness is evident through his role as a Physical Fitness Instructor at the Zone 5 Regional Law Enforcement Academy. Furthermore, his current membership in the Department’s Special Services Team showcases his commitment to handling critical situations with professionalism and expertise.

Officer Berkery has already begun working within the Colonie Central High School, familiarizing himself with the school’s unique culture, values, and needs. By establishing relationships with students, faculty, and staff, he aims to foster a sense of trust and open communication. As the SRO, he will serve as a visible presence on campus, offering guidance, support and ensuring a safe learning environment for everyone.

Officer Berkery will officially begin his role in September. Together, we look forward to a safe and successful academic year ahead.
