June 1st was the date of the first Marine Corps Toys for Tots 5K Run-Walk at the Saratoga State Park. Forty-five runners and walkers participated, many donning backpacks stuffed with toys. Lisha Kill teacher Connie Smith (right) was the overall winner. Though Christmas 2019 is more than six months away, the 5K race helped kick off the U.S. Marine Corps’ mission and we are hoping for even more participants next June. Also pictured here is Sergeant Ted Kleniewski who many may recognize as an integral part of the South Colonie Transportation Department’s annual Stuff the Bus with Toys for Tots campaign each December. Wishing Ted well on his 18-month deployment to Japan. He hopes to be back to South Colonie Schools in the future.
