Students in Mrs.Bell’s 5th grade Science classes at Lisha Kill Middle School got to speak with scientists working out of Palmer Station, a long-term ecological research station in the western peninsula of Antarctica. Student prepared by completing a six-day web quest, looking at information about Antarctica, the different penguin populations that live there, how climate change is impacting sea birds and finally they looked at actual data collected by Palmer Station and interpreted what it meant. The final activity was video chatting with one of the researchers living at Palmer Station. Student got to ask questions directly to the scientists. It was an amazing opportunity to learn more about current research.
